The Glamour Beauty Edit Box – Review

After giving you an overview of beauty boxes I thought it only fair that I do detailed reviews of all the products within the boxes.  So one of the boxes which ranked as top in July’s beauty boxes was the Glamour Beauty Edit Box from Latest in Beauty. I will also review the build your own box items which I picked over the next few days.

Firstly I wanted to say sorry for taking so long to post this detailed review, its been hectic with my daughters never really allowing me to work around them, and also working full time and just having major tech issues with my mac book pro.

If you read my beauty box review previous to this post you will know that the Glamour box was one of my faves from all the ones I reviewed.  And below you will find out why that is.

So let’s get stuck in.

With 9 items included in the box this box is really a bargain at just £16.95 and free postage.  So lets take a look at all the items with a brief description of each and then a detailed review.

What’s in the Box

  1. Hawaiian Tropic Satin Protection spf 30 sun cream
  2. Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan
  3. Velvotan The original tanning mitt
  4. Crabtree and Evelyn nail polish
  5. DHC deep cleaning oil
  6. Illamasqua Glamore nude Lipstick
  7. Bourjois Cream Blush
  8. Toni and Guy Volume Plumping Whip
  9. Magnifibres brush-on false lashes

What a great selection of items for summer, can you see why this box was one of my faves out of the ones I reviewed???

Hawaiian Tropic Satin Protection spf 30 sun cream – 100 ml (£5.99)

This sun cream is like no other I have used, in a very good way.  Firstly it smells absolutely gorgeous which is not always the case with sun creams. Its a full size item and retails for £5.99 from the Hawaiian Tropic website  and they have a buy one get one free at the moment too, this is also available in 200ml size.  I think it is reasonably priced as compared to other sun creams.

Hawaiian Tropic Satin Protection Sun Cream

As well as smelling good enough to eat this sun cream applies like a dream and sinks right in without leaving the dreaded white coating on your skin.  It leaves the skin feeling lovely and moisturised and no stickiness at all. Love love love this sun cream and will most definitely be buying it again in the future.

Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan – 125 ml (£6.99) and Velvotan The original tanning mitt (£2.99)

So when I saw a self tanning/bronzing product in the box I knew I would not be getting much use out of it until the winter 🙂 With the beautiful weather here in the UK I don’t need any help with tanning at the moment.  But I did try it out on my legs and the effect was good, quite subtle for me.

Rimmel Sun shimmer and Velvotan mitt

It’s likely I will be giving this product to one of my lesser tanned friends, or I will be using it in winter.  It smells nice enough and other reviews I have seen have been very good. The Rimmel Sun Shimmer is available from Boots stores and the you can get the Velvotan mitt from Feel Unique.

Crabtree and Evelyn nail polish – 15ml (£6.00)

Being a polish addict I was very happy to see Polish in this box.  I didn’t even know that Crabtree and Evelyn made polishes, well you learn something new every day hey. This was a full size product and is on offer at the moment in a ‘buy 2 for £6’ deal.

I didn’t use the polish on my nails as I just didn’t have time, so I just did a quick swatch on my colour wheel. Which shows off this lovely red colour which has a very slight shimmer to it.  It applied easily and was opaque in 2 coats.  I will try it out on my nails at some point.

DHC Deep Cleansing oil – 30 ml (£4.50)

This is not a full size item but is still a good size and am sure can be used quite a few times, and is perfect size for travel as it is under 50ml, but there are larger sizes available on their website.  I love using oils for my skin as generally I have quite dry skin, and I am always on the look out for good cleansers and oils to help my skin.  I’ve never tried an oil based make up remover/face cleanser before apart from on my eyes to remove my water proof make up, so this was something new for me.

The packaging is simple and clean.  It has a little hole for you to control the flow of the oil.

I use more make up now than I ever did due to my make up addiction :). I slapped on my heavy duty make up to review this product and was very dubious about what it promises to do, which is remove all your make up without irritating your skin.

You are supposed to take a small amount and just rub it into your face, to my disappointment it did not say it was suitable to remove eye make up so I didn’t try.  It did however do a great job on my face and I was very happy with the fact my face did not feel dry after using this, as it does with most cleansers.  So I will be using this product in the future, we often forget how important it is to cleanse our skin properly, and there is nothing like the feeling of a nice clean face after wearing make up all day.  I would definitely recommend this product.

Illamasqua Glamore – Full size in ‘Naked’ (£18)

This lippy is the reason I purchased this box.  I’m so obsessed with lipstick at the moment that when I saw that one of Illamasquas new Nude lipsticks was in the box for less than the actual price to purchase from Illamasqua how could I not buy the box.

Illamasqua Glamore Nudes - Naked

I’m a nude lippy lover and am constantly on the search for good nudes as it can be very hard to find ones which match your skin tone.  Well I was very impressed with the colour which was picked to go into my box.  I’m not sure if it was based on the beauty info I gave but they really did get the selection perfect for me.  In my box was ‘Naked’ which is one of the new 7 nudes Illamasqua has added to their Glamore lippy collection.  Below you can see some swatches of it on my lips and arms, indoor and outdoor lighting.

I really am in love with this lippy and it is tempting me to buy some more from their nude collection.

Bourjois Cream Blush – 2.5 g ‘Nude Velvet’ (£7.99)

I used to absolutely love using cream blushes when I was in my teens, I found them easy to apply and used to use them on my lips too which I’m sure can also be done with these beauties by Bourjois. Its been quite a while since I’ve used any of their products and am not sure why that is, probably because there is just so much choice when it comes to make up.

Bourjois Cream Blush 'Nude Velvet'

Bourjois Cream Blush ‘Nude Velvet’

As you can see on my skin tone this has a lovely pinky coral tone, not too sure about the ‘nude’ bit 🙂 But it certainly is a lovely colour, applies like a dream, feels very lightweight on the face and best of all does not make your face feel dry as some powder blushes can.  The staying power seemed good enough, although nothing can really top my fave blush by Tarte which comes with a much larger price tag. Overall I was very happy with this product and would recommend it, also very versatile and you can use to add colour to your lips.

Toni and Guy Volume Plumping Whip – 90 ml (£7.19)

Ok so I’m a hair product freak just as much as I am into make up and Polish 🙂  Is there anything she is not obsessed with I hear you asked lol.

Well having naturally curly hair which is very saturated in colour I am always on the look out for helping hands for my hair.  A lot of people have the misconception that Curly hair naturally has lots of volume… this is not true.  If your hair is not cut to the right style and is heavy at the ends it can mean your hair looks limp and lifeless.  So believe it or not when I am styling my hair I use various volumising products. This product can be purchased from a number of different places but found amazon had it in stock at the same price as boots who didn’t.

I have never used a cream like volume enhancing product as I would always have thought that this texture would weigh down your hair rather than plumping it up. On initial inspection it smells nice and clean and the texture actually wasn’t as heavy as I thought.

Toni&Guy Volume Plumping Whip

Toni&Guy Volume Plumping Whip

I applied a small amount to my hair as directed and it was actually hard to see much of a difference than when I normally blow dry it, which gives it volume anyway.  I will have to try this product again on my hair another time and do some with and without trials.  I may get my mum to try it out as she has very straight flyaway hair which she finds hard to get any volume into.  So the jury is still out on this product.

Magnifibres brush-on false lashes – 0.9g (£15.80-£20.00)

I was very excited to try this product as I have seen and heard lots about it.  So I didn’t really know what to expect but it comes in packaging that tells you how to apply it.  The product is used in conjunction with your regular mascara so it does not replace it. I found it cheapest at Beauty Bay.

So I have deadly striaght lashes and have found that waterproof mascara is the only mascara which will hold a curl for me, but I will do a detailed post about that some other time.  The product works by adding fibres to the lashes and then when you apply another coat of mascara it gives them volume and length, well thats what it claims to do.  I did see a difference in the Volume of the lashes but the length was not greatly increased, however that may have been due to the fact I did not use enough of the product as I have seen others get fantastic results.

Gosh that’s up close and personal with my eyes lol, I suffer from Blepharitis which is like an excema of the eyes so it would be interesting to see how this product would effect that over continued use.

Overall I love this box and its contents, there is so much variety and I will most definitely keep a look out for the Latest in Beauty limited edition boxes in the future.

Thanks for reading xxx
